On October 26, 2023, participants from Trail Life and AHG, visited the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency in Wetumpka. Together, they learned how the 911 dispatch is operated, and got to see the various computer and television screens showing live cameras, weather, and other emergency alerts. There were various warehouses with rescue equipment, such as boats, trucks, disaster response, etc.
They also learned that EMA stocks tarpaulins, water, cleaning supplies, and other items to distribute to citizens after a disaster occurs. They even have an inflatable hospital that can be used in an emergency! The troops left feeling more prepared, knowing what would happen in an emergency, and feeling confident in the agency to keep everyone informed, prepared, and safe.
