Ranger
The Woodlands Trail Ranger is a unique and vital role in the Trail Life troop. The Ranger is a Christian adult male registered leader who understands the Woodlands Trail program philosophically and practically. His primary role to mentor the Woodlands Trail Trail Guides on how to be better Trail Guides. The Ranger will observe and coach the Trail Guides on best practices and methods of program delivery, teaching/leading styles, and interacting with the Trailmen. He should model humble, servant leadership to each Trail Guide and to all Trailmen with whom he interacts.
The Ranger will also work with the Trail Guides to ensure that the appropriate Step activities are being completed so that the Trailmen can earn the pins and patches for their patrol. Additionally, the Ranger is a member of the Troop’s Officers’ Conference to ensure that the Trailman-led annual plan includes sufficient activities for the Woodlands Trail patrols.
Qualifications
- Christian man age 21 or older
- Frazer Church Volunteer (or eligible)
- TLUSA Registered Adult (or eligible)
Core Duties
- Understand the philosophy and ‘nuts and bolts’ of the Woodlands Trail program
- Mentor the Woodlands Trail Trail Guides
- Track award progress and coordinate or update in Trail Life Connect
- Assist/verify adequate Steps and Hit the Trail activities are included on the troop calendar.
- Work with Chaplain to ensure Worthy Life and Timberline requirements are understood by parents.
- Ensure needs of Woodlands Trailmen are being met on campouts/events. For example, do the Mountain Lions have adequate time and supplies to complete Firegaurd training.
Additional Responsibilities
- As a member of the troop leadership, pay active attention to troop business and be able to accurately and thoughtfully represent the troop to others in the church and community.
- Complete Peak 1 and Peak 2 trainings during first year of service.
Timing of Duties
- Arrive early for troop meetings and check in with each Woodland unit to ensure proper leader/youth ratios are met.
- Ensure 2-deep leadership is present and maintained during the meeting.
- Verify all boys have been picked up by parents after the meeting.
- Attend Officer’s Conferences to advocate for Woodlands Trailmen.
